HBT: Manny arrives in camp, says he found God

Manny Ramirez arrived at A?s camp in Phoenix today. ?After hitting several home runs in batting practice, he addressed the media. ?Among the things he had to say:

On the one hand: ?this is really cool. Though I?m not personally religious, I have seen how people can turn to God as a means of straightening their life out. ?Whether there really is some sort of divine intervention at work or, rather, it?s just about finding something ? anything ? with which and on which to focus their lives,?I have no idea. But it can work. ?And given the sort of trouble Manny was having in his life in his career and with his family, good for him for finding something to turn things around.

On the other hand: poor God. ?I know He is all loving and all powerful, but it?s probably been some time since He?s had someone who can try His patience like Manny can. ?Manny is probably like that kid in Catholic school who asks if God can create a rock so large that even He Himself can?t move it, only x1000 and weirder.

?Are you there God? It?s me, Manny.?

?Um, sure, Manny. One moment. I just have to see a guy about a thing.?

[God runs away]

YouPorn users exposed after security hole discovered

12 hrs.

Watching porn is one thing, but if you join a site, be forewarned that someday, someone might find a way to tap into the site's databases and share your email address and password for all the world to see.

For nearly 6,500 YouPorn members, that day has come.

Anders Nilsson,?CTO, and a security specialist at Eurosecure, wrote a post about the breach?and how Alltid Nyheter, from Swedish public broadcasting radio, alerted him to it. Nyheter had found a thread on Flashback.org, Sweden's largest Web forum, in which it was revealed that "user info of well over a million registered users was openly accessible on the chat site of YouPorn until the server was taken down yesterday."

Besides the embarrassment of being outed as a YouPorn member, there is also the much more serious issue of possible identity theft: At least some people are likely to use the same email address and password on other accounts.

Nilsson lays the blame on YouPorn's bare shoulders: "Looking at the data, it seems like a careless programmer accidentally(?!) left debug logging on to a publicly accessible URL as early as November 2007, and it has been storing all registrations ever since."

That Achilles heel was too tempting for someone to pass up, as ?Nilsson guessed "someone sweeping websites for publicly accessible, but non-linked ('hidden') folders, looking for ... either porn or sensitive material like this? struck gold."

And then the gold rush was on.

Nilsson said, "Hackers have already started going through the lists, checking which users have the same password for e-mail or Facebook, and have posted some intimate pictures found in some users sent/received email."

Security News Daily?reported a list of 6,433 YouPorn members has already been posted on?Pastebin, a favorite dump site for such info, especially from Anonymous, which has recently used it as a broadcasting center for?an announcement about shutting down the Internet.

All the pleasure of being a porn user seems to be in danger, with this and a report that earlier this month, a?teen hacker gained access to the personal information of more than 350,000 users after breaking into an inactive forum operated by Brazzers, one of many porn sites run by the Luxembourg-based Manwin company. He then posted a small sample of users' information.

Ash Wednesday Do?s and Don'ts

For Catholics, the ashes are considered a sign of penitence and mortality. They are rubbed in with a prayer that says, ?Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.? In the United States, the dark smudge is supposed to take the shape of the cross, or a smudge vaguely resembling a cross depending on the precision of the person giving you ashes, but customs vary around the world. In Europe, ashes are sprinkled on the top of a person?s head. (One consistent tradition is for Ash Wednesday ashes to come from burning last year?s Palm Sunday fronds. The ashes are often combined with oil for sticking power, and sometimes bought from religious suppliers when churches are short on palm fronds.)

Report: Crime at US public schools on the decline

(AP) ? Violent crime at the nation's schools is declining, and students and schools are reporting less bullying and gang activity.

But new government data reports an increase in cyber bullying and youth suicides.

"Cyber bullying issue has really moved to center stage and that's probably the next major challenge that school officials and others will have to address," said Ron Stephens, executive director of the National School Safety Center, a nonprofit advocacy organization.

He said the higher number of suicides wasn't surprising.

"I think that's a number we'll see increasing based on what's happening with all the cyber bullying," Stephens said.

The number of violent deaths declined to 33 in the 2009-10 school year, the lowest number on record since the agencies began collecting data in 1992, according to data released by the U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Justice on Wednesday. In the previous school year, there were 38 such deaths.

Thefts and nonfatal violent crimes declined from 1.2 million in 2008 to 828,000 in 2010.

"Students perceive schools as being safer than they were," said Tom Snyder, a project director of the National Center for Education Statistics

While the data show a consistent decline across several indicators, there were increases in a few areas, including cyber bullying and suicides among youth age 5 - 18 outside of school. Some school safety advocates question whether the numbers are accurate at all, noting the data is collected through surveys and not incident based reporting.

"The federal reports grossly underestimate the extent of school violence," said Ken Trump, president of the National School Safety and Security Services, a Cleveland-based consulting firm.

Veronica Joyner, president of Parents United for Better Schools in Philadelphia, said the numbers did not ring true to her.

"It's underreported," Joyner said. "Many of the administrators will not report serious incidents because it looks like they're not doing their job at the school and that is part of their evaluation."

Snyder said the report is based on seven surveys.

"We were showing fairly consistent patterns of decreases," he said.

Of the 33 violent deaths involving students, staff and others on school campuses, 25 were homicides, five were suicides and three involved a law enforcement officer. Among youth ages five to 18, there were 17 homicides and one suicide that occurred on school grounds.

The highest number of violent deaths at schools occurred in the 2006-07 school year, when there were 63.

"These tragic incidents are fortunately relatively rare, but it's hard to interpret a change from one year to another," Snyder said. "The numbers are lower but you don't know if it's part of a national pattern or just reflecting random occurrences in those years."

The annual report comes after a number of high profile incidents, including the 2010 suicide of Phoebe Prince, who hung herself after repeated bullying at a high school in South Hadley, Mass. Five students later accepted plea deals in criminal cases. Prince's death was among several that led to new laws cracking down on bullying in schools.

The total number of homicides, including those not committed on school grounds, declined from 1,701 to 1,579 among youth ages five to 18 in the 2008-09 school year. The number of suicides, however, saw an increase, from 1,231 to 1,344 in the 2008 calendar year.

And while the proportion of students ages 12 to 18 who reported being bullied at school has declined from 32 to 28 percent, more say they are being cyber bullied, an increase from 4 to 6 percent.

Trump said he was skeptical of the numbers showing an overall decrease in crime. He said that in traveling across the country and conducting school safety presentations with administrators, he asks whether they've experienced the crime decline the federal government reports.

"I have yet to have one person raise their hand," Trump said.

Joyner said her advocacy organization has noticed an increase in violent attacks on children. The Philadelphia School District recently decided to eliminate 91 school police jobs.

"You always need supervision, particularly in high schools," Joyner said. "My concern is the impact of what's going on in our schools is going to get worse."

Former Players Sue the NFL - Risk Management Monitor

Risk Management, along with numerous other publications, have covered the serious problem of concussions ? and their repercussions ? within the NFL. From the sad stories of Andre Waters, Terry Long and Tom McHale, the bad press surrounding the situation has worsened as science has begun to link frequent, recurring concussions to brain damage.

Many feel the NFL is to blame. Fingers have been pointed and now papers are being served as 11 ex-players filed a class-action lawsuit Friday in federal court in New Orleans. According to the documents, each has developed mental or physical problems from concussions suffered during their professional football careers. As the lawsuit states:

?Wanting their players on the field instead of training tables, and in an attempt to protect a multibillion dollar business, the NFL has purposefully attempted to obfuscate the issue and has repeatedly refuted the connection between concussions and brain injury to the disgust of Congress, which has blasted the NFL?s handling of the issue on multiple occasions.?

And it?s not only the NFL that is being taken to court over these allegations. Helmet maker Riddell was also named as a defendant in the suit. According to a recent report, the company marketed its football helmets as reducing or preventing concussions despite having no scientific or medical evidence to support the claim.

It is certainly easy to put the blame on the league and the maker of helmets worn during play, and in no way should they be considered innocent. But what about personal responsibility? What about risk management for thy self? Football is inherently a dangerous sport to be played at the players own risk. Should others be held fully responsible for a game that has, since the first game was played in 1869, been known to cause various injuries and even death (mostly indirectly)?

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) ? As families of the 185 people killed in the Christchurch earthquake marked the one-year anniversary of the disaster Wednesday, signs of a city still broken were all around them.

Hundreds of wrecked buildings downtown are still waiting to be torn down so reconstruction can begin in earnest ? many of them within sight of the morning ceremony at Latimer Square.

The slow pace of recovery is drawing criticism from residents and developers as it wears at the reputation of Mayor Bob Parker, who was praised in the days following the quake for his leadership and for calmly articulating the pain and frustration many were feeling.

"There are many unknowns, there are questions still to be answered, suburbs to be rebuilt and a city to be rebuilt," Parker said at a larger ceremony later Wednesday in the city's North Hagley Park. "We've had our differences, creative and otherwise. But that is not who we really are."

Wednesday was a day of reflection amid what has become a battle between city leaders and many Christchurch residents and developers.

More than 10,000 people stood in silence, some in tears, at the park while police officers and firefighters read out the full list of victims. That was followed by two minutes of silence at 12:51 p.m., the minute the magnitude-6.1 quake struck.

The earthquake destroyed thousands of homes and other buildings, causing 30 billion dollars ($25 billion) in damage by the government's estimate.

Downtown is still a wasteland. About 1,400 buildings there were irreparably damaged, and many still stand. Basic downtown infrastructure like the sewerage system has not yet been repaired, and vital decisions about where to locate major structures in a new-look city ? including a proposed sports stadium, library and conference center ? remain incomplete.

Many now question whether Parker and council members have what it takes to lead the city through the rebuild.

"The council is seen as being at war with the community and with businesses," said Hugh Pavletich, a developer and city critic. "It's an old culture which is bureaucratized and which is severely impeding progress."

To be sure, ongoing aftershocks and balking insurers also have held back the rebuild. But the political infighting hasn't helped.

New Zealand's government recently appointed an observer to oversee what it describes as the "dysfunctional" council. Gerry Brownlee, the government's earthquake recovery minister, recently called Parker a "clown," a comment he later retracted. Earlier this month, several thousand Christchurch residents took to the streets, demanding that the mayor, council members and senior officials resign.

Parker and council members unveiled a draft downtown plan last August. It included terraced housing and a new light rail system. Critics said it was stuffed with unrealistic pet projects and didn't allow developers enough freedom. Brownlee is considering a pared-back version of the plan and is expected to release his own vision soon.

Parker says the city considered more than 100,000 submissions for the plan and that critics form a vocal minority.

Christchurch developer Angus McFarlane said he now expects the commercial core of the city will take 10 years to rebuild and will contain just 30 percent of the retail and office space it did before the quake. He said he's unsure whether he will reinvest in the city.

He said adaptations made by many businesses after the earthquake ? such as working remotely and turning to smaller spaces ? will make them unwilling to return to a high-cost city center.

"A lot of people are waking up and saying, 'Gee, this is marvelous, we should have done this years ago,'" McFarlane said.

Parker said the city center will be more condensed than it was before and won't have the tall office buildings it once did. But he said it will be more dynamic, livable and green.

"You're not going to satisfy everybody," he said.

Despite the concerns, residents and businesses have so far remained in the city in numbers that have surprised many. When Statistics New Zealand measured the population of Christchurch four months after the earthquake, it found the population had declined by just 2.4 percent, to 368,000, despite the loss of more than 5,000 homes.

Peter Townsend, the chief executive of the Canterbury Employers' Chamber of Commerce, said that business receipts continue to come in at more than 95 percent of the level recorded before the quake.

Some parts of the city that have picked up the slack are now booming.

"Business has been remarkably resilient," Townsend said.

However, he said people need to start thinking about downtown Christchurch in a new way.

"There's still a perception that we are going to rebuild it much like it was," he said. "It's completely untrue."

Instead, Townsend said he envisions the creation of seven or eight small retail hubs, or villages, around major structures like the hospital and the convention center.

Brownlee, the earthquake minister, said he understands people's frustration at the pace of the rebuild but added that they need to remember that the earthquake was a massively disruptive event. He said it's more important to get things right than to rush, and that reconstruction remains on track despite the city's political problems.

Brownlee said it's important for land prices to fall in the city to encourage new investment. Overall, he said, he has high hopes for a revamped downtown.

"I feel it will be quite new, quite clean, quite shiny, and safe," he said. "People say it's going to be a smaller city, but I'm not convinced. It's certainly going to be in a tighter area, and it's going to be integrated a lot better."

Asked when downtown might be ready for business, Brownlee said he simply cannot predict.

Legless amphibians win the prize for weirdness

Since before the age of dinosaurs it has burrowed unbothered beneath the monsoon-soaked soils of remote northeast India ? unknown to science and mistaken by villagers as a deadly, miniature snake.

But this legless amphibian's time in obscurity has ended, thanks to an intrepid team of biologists led by University of Delhi professor Sathyabhama Das Biju. Over five years of digging through forest beds in the rain, the team has identified an entirely new family of amphibians ? called chikilidae ? endemic to the region but with ancient links to Africa.

Their discovery, published Wednesday in a journal of the Royal Society of London, gives yet more evidence that India is a hotbed of amphibian life with habitats worth protecting against the country's industry-heavy development agenda.

It also gives exciting new evidence in the study of prehistoric species migration, as well as evolutionary paths influenced by continental shift.

"This is a major hotspot of biological diversity, but one of the least explored," Biju said in an interview with The Associated Press. "We hope this new family will show the importance of funding research in the area. We need to know what we have, so we can know what to save."

His first effort in conserving the chikilidae was to give it a scientific name mirroring what the locals use in their Garo language. The chikilidae is a caecilian, the most primitive of three amphibian groups that also include frogs and salamanders.

"We hope when the locals see the name, and their language, being used across the world, they will understand this animal's importance and join in trying to save it," Biju said. "India's biodiversity is fast depleting. We are destroying these habitats without mercy."

Changing habitat
The chikilidae's home in long-ignored tropical forests now faces drastic change under programs to cut trees, plant rice paddy, build roads and generate industry as India's economic growth fuels a breakneck drive in development. More industrial pollutants, more pesticides and more people occupying more land may mean a world of trouble for a creature that can be traced to the earliest vertebrates to creep across land.

Biju ? a botanist-turned-herpetologist now celebrated as India's "Frogman" ? has made it his life work to find and catalog new species. There are too many cases of "nameless extinction," with animals disappearing before they are ever known, he said. "We don't even know what we're losing."

Amphibians are particularly vulnerable, and have drastically declined in recent decades. The same sensitivity to climate and water quality that makes them perfect environmental barometers also puts them at the greatest risk when ecological systems go awry.

Biju, however, is working to reverse the trend. Since 2001, he has discovered 76 new species of plants, caecilians and frogs ? vastly more than any other scientist in India ? and estimates that 30 to 40 percent of the country's amphibians are yet to be found.

Within the chikilidae family, the team has already identified three species, and is on its way to classing three more, he said.

Little-known breed
The chikilidae's discovery, made along with co-researchers from London's Natural History Museum and Vrije University in Brussels, brings the number of known caecilian families in the world to 10. Three are in India and others are spread across the tropics in Southeast Asia, Africa and South America. There is debate about the classifications, however, and some scientists count even fewer caecilian families.

Because they live hidden underground, and race off at the slightest vibration, much less is known about them than their more famous ? and vocal ? amphibious cousins, the frogs. Only 186 of the world's known amphibious species are caecilians, compared with more than 6,000 frog species ? a third of which are considered endangered or threatened.

Even people living in northeast Indians misunderstand the caecilians, and rare sightings can inspire terror and revulsion, with farmers and villagers chopping them in half out of the mistaken belief that they are poisonous snakes.

In fact, the chikilidae is harmless, and may even be the farmer's best friend ? feasting on worms and insects that might harm crops, and churning the soil as it moves underground.

Much remains to be discovered in further study, Biju said, as many questions remain about how the creatures live.

50 days without food
So far, Biju's team has determined that an adult chikilidae will remain with its eggs until they hatch, forgoing food for some 50 days. When the eggs hatch, the young emerge as tiny adults and squirm away.

They grow to about 4 inches (10 centimeters), and can ram their hard skulls through some of the region's tougher soils, shooting off quickly at the slightest vibration. "It's like a rocket," Biju said. "If you miss it the first try, you'll never catch it again."

A possibly superfluous set of eyes is shielded under a layer of skin, and may help the chikilidae gauge light from dark as in other caecilian species.

DNA testing suggests that the chikilidae's closest relative is in Africa ? with the two evolutionary paths splitting 140 million years ago when dinosaurs roamed what was then a southern supercontinent called Gondwana, since separated into today's continents of Africa, Antarctica, Australia, South America and the Indian subcontinent.

Biju's team worked best during monsoon season, when the digging is easier and chikilidae lay eggs in waterlogged soils. Gripping garden spades with blistered hands, the researchers along with locals they hired spent about 2,600 worker-hours digging for the elusive squigglers, usually found about 16 inches (40 centimeters) deep.

"It was backbreaking work," said research fellow Rachunliu Kamei, who even passed out in the forest once, and some days found not even one specimen.

"But there is motivation in knowing this is an uncharted frontier," said Kamei, lead researcher and main author of the study paper.

(AP) ? For more than a decade, Bronson Pinchot has spent much of his downtime in the picture-book Pennsylvania hamlet where he found a dream home far from the stressful clamor of New York or L.A.

Pinchot likely remains best known as the endearingly na?ve, quasi-Mediterranean immigrant Balki Bartokomous from the TV sitcom "Perfect Strangers." But unlike Balki, Pinchot is by his own admission "fiercely private" and an "introvert that does a pretty convincing performance as an extrovert." Still, he has decided to open his doors to America via "The Bronson Pinchot Project," which premiered Feb. 11 on the DIY cable network. In all, eight episodes were shot over 13 weeks at the end of last year in Harford, a village founded in 1790 and nestled in the Endless Mountains of Susquehanna County near the New York state line.

His filmography includes 1980s hits like "Risky Business" and "Beverly Hills Cop," but since "Perfect Strangers" ended in 1993 after eight seasons, Pinchot has performed on and off-Broadway, appeared in touring theatrical productions and done voiceovers and audiobooks.

His new show, though, is altogether different.

First, the designs are his own. "I get a kick out of it because I sit there with a sketchbook and say, 'This is what it should look like when it's done' and in the end it either looks like that or it's better," he said. "My theater training helps; in theater, it doesn't matter where you're at with your performance, opening night is opening night."

Home base is Pinchot's circa 1840 mansion in the center of Harford, a town of about 1,300 people. It was the home of state Sen. Edward Jones in the early 1900s and had more recently served as office space. Pinchot bought the place in 2000.

"I wanted a Greek Revival house within five driving hours of New York City," Pinchot said. When he first walked in, he said, he knew he would buy it.

When he arrived, the scene couldn't have been better staged by a Hollywood set designer: The house smelled of cinnamon toast, the air outside smelled of fresh manure, a woman pushing a baby carriage paused to admire a neighbor's fuchsia roses across the street.

"I was already sold, but that was like God was hitting me over the head with a sledgehammer," he said. "OK, I get it, I get it!"

He now owns six historic properties in Harford, including what was a burned-out vacant home also from around 1840 and a sweet blue-shingled building that houses the town's post office. Eventually, he hopes many of the properties will be places for visiting friends to stay.

The first season's architectural stars are his Ionic-columned mansion and Decker House, a smaller home rehabbed with salvaged wood from demolished old buildings, windows from an abandoned farmhouse and floors from a property formerly part of late heiress Doris Duke's estate.

Not only is "The Bronson Pinchot Project" a show about historic restoration, it's a love letter to his adopted hometown.

"Harford is to be seen through my lens, which is that that it's heaven on earth," he said. "None of this 'big fish in a little pond.' No. We're not doing 'Green Acres.'"

Pinchot, 52, an antiques collector and enthusiast of classical art and architecture since childhood, is a hands-on renovator who employs local carpenters and craftspeople; many are slated to appear in the show.

Years of trial and error have culminated into the current style viewers will see taking shape ? a blend of English regency and American high country along with 19th-century plaster casts of ancient Greek sculpture and architectural flourishes. The goal is for rooms to look like they've taken shape over many decades, he said.

His earliest home rehab forays involved getting all the period details and furniture just right. But it felt wrong.

"I looked around and thought, 'Well now all it's missing is a docent and a leaflet that says where the cafe is," he said. "I made a little museum and that's not what I want."

Things you won't see in Bronson world: kitchen appliances. Refrigerators ? which Pinchot calls "unacceptably, unforgivably ugly" ? ovens, dishwashers and microwaves are cleverly concealed behind salvaged wainscoting, cupboards and cabinets mounted clandestinely on hinges, like a bookcase hiding a castle's secret passageway.

All of his properties eventually will get the full "Bronsonian" treatment, a process shaped both by the availability of salvage materials and Pinchot's own improvisational approach to renovating.

"I hope we can do this for 10 seasons!" he said. "We could do an episode on every room."

InFocus IN104

The InFocus IN104 ($400 street) is a lightweight, reasonably bright projector good for business travelers?it?s easy to set up and use, and provides decent image quality for presenters. It?s a solid choice for a good price, though a bit sparse on features and connection ports.

The IN104 is rated at 2,700 lumens. The projector?s native XGA (1,024 by 768) resolution translates to a 4:3 aspect ratio ?It is reasonably compact at 3.3 by 9.3 by 8.7 inches, and it weighs 4.4 pounds, so it?s very easy to take with you in the provided soft carrying case.

The projector is black (matte and glossy by turns) and rectangular, with rounded corners. The front can be tilted upward by means of an extendible riser. The focus and zoom wheels are accessible through a deep recess in the projector?s top, a bit awkward to access, though one can bring the projector to a reasonably good focus.

This projector has a modest selection of connection ports. It has 2 VGA-in ports for connecting with computers, a VGA-out for connecting with a monitor; S-Video; RS232; an RCA video jack; and both audio-in and audio-out jacks.

Data and Video Testing

The IN104 threw a 6-foot diagonal image to fill our test screen, with the projector roughly 8 feet away from the screen. It?s bright enough to stand up to significant ambient light in a smallish room. In my testing using the DisplayMate suite, the projector showed typical image quality for a low-priced DLP projector. In our text testing, type was a bit fuzzy on the two smallest white-on-black fonts and the smallest black-on-white size, a bit sub-par for a data projector. A few images showed modest tints; grays tended to look slightly greenish and I often saw yellow fringing at the edge of bright areas.

On several test images, the IN104 showed a bit of the rainbow effect, in which bright areas break down into their component colors to appear as a rainbow-like flash when one shifts one?s gaze. (People vary in their sensitivity to this effect; I seem to be about average.) Still, data image quality is easily good enough to handle a typical presenter?s projection needs.

Video quality is good enough to show short to mid-length clips as part of a presentation, though I wouldn?t want to use this projector for watching full-length movies. Some scenes in our test clips showed traces of posterization, the tendency for sudden shifts in color where they should be gradual. The rainbow effect in the IN104?s video, though within the normal range we see in DLP projectors, was pronounced enough so that someone who is sensitive to it could well be distracted by it.

The IN104 has a two-watt speaker that?s capable of playing decent-sounding audio at a volume that can fill a small room. The projector?s audio-out jack also allows it to be connected to external, powered speakers.

The InFocus IN104 is a likeable data projector, compact and lightweight, and easy to quickly set up and use, if a bit sparse on features. It?s similar to the InFocus IN114, though the IN104 is slightly lighter and lacks a USB type mini-B port for connecting to a computer. The NEC NP64 ?($1,099 direct, 4 stars) is brighter, lighter, and provides a good feature set and solid image quality. If you need higher brightness, the Editors? Choice Epson PowerLite 1880 MultiMedia Projector ($1,399 direct, 4 stars) is rated at 4,000 lumens.

Where can I find low cost auto insurance coverage? | Cheap Car ...

Low cost auto insurance isn?t a myth. with proper research, anyone can find an affordable policy offering great coverage. Car insurance rates are calculated depending on the likelihood of the driver being involved in an accident.

Some of the factors that affect your premiums can be kept under control, and comparing car insurance rates can always keep you up-to-date with your options. Use your ZIP code using this FREE auto insurance comparison tool to find great rates now! the following auto insurance tips will help you find a policy that meets your needs.

Use the Internet

The Internet is the best place to find low cost auto insurance coverage. with a few mouse clicks, you can save hundreds of dollars on your policy.

Another advantage of shopping for car insurance online is that you won?t have to deal with brokers and salesmen. Take your time and search for information about the main types of coverage. Compare as many auto insurance quotes as possible.

Some customers prefer to buy cheap auto insurance online from the companies they are interested in, while others use quote comparison websites. If you want to compare auto insurance quotes from several providers, go online and use a comparison website. you will be required to enter a few details such as your age and gender, driving experience, location, credit rating, type of car, and annual mileage.

Appling for car insurance quotes online takes only a few minutes. Some websites provide hundreds of quotes from top rated insurers.

If you have been with the same insurer for years, you may be overpaying for coverage. Insurance companies often offer the lowest rates to new customers. Make sure you go shopping for auto insurance every year. This way you will get a clear picture of the market and find out about the best deals out there.

Choose a Standard Car

If you haven?t bought a car yet, get one that is not expensive to insure. Auto insurance companies divide cars in several groups according to their engine size, their age, and the cost of repairs. Before you buy a new vehicle, check its rating. Cars with small engines and cheap parts are an excellent option for those who want to keep their insurance premiums low.

Fast cars and luxury vehicles often result in costly insurance claims. the newer the car, the higher the repair cost. however, this doesn?t mean that you should drive an old car that has been on the road for over 20 years.

Make sure you Are Legally Covered

Before you go shopping for auto insurance online, check the minimum coverage requirements in your state. Evaluate your options and decide how much coverage you need.

Even if you are on tight budget, opt for a comprehensive policy that offers extensive coverage. If you buy a car insurance plan with insufficient coverage, you will pay thousands of dollars from your own pocket in the event of a claim.

Protecting your assets and your health are two of the main benefits of auto insurance. most companies provide liability, collision, and comprehensive insurance. Liability coverage is required in most states. In addition to the types of coverage listed above, drovers can purchase uninsured/underinsured motorist protection insurance, medical payments insurance, towing coverage, rental coverage, gap coverage, and personal injury protection coverage.

Factors That Impact your Rates

Car insurance premiums are determined based on factors such as the driver?s age, location, years of driving experience, moving violations, accident claims, occupation, and miles driven each year.

Statistics show that individuals with bad credit are more likely to get involved in car accident and file claims. Maintaining a good credit score will result in lower premiums.

Drivers living in high-crime areas pay more on car insurance than those who live in low-crime areas. the number of miles you drive may affect your auto insurance rates too. If you use your car a regular basis, you will get higher premiums. Maintain a clean driving record and you will save hundreds of dollars on coverage.

Insurance companies calculate your rates based on the factors listed above. however, car insurance premiums vary from one company to the next. Make sure you compare three to five quotes from different insurers. keep in mind that most companies offer discounts of up to 70 percent. Insuring multiple cars under the same roof or adding safety devices to your vehicle can lower your rates.

Take Advantage of Discounts

Whether you buy car insurance online or you contact a broker, ask about the discounts offered. many companies provide major discounts that can significantly reduce the cost of car insurance. Membership in organizations like AARP and AAA can qualify drivers for extra savings. It may be cost-effective to join a group or organization solely based on the reduction of your car insurance rates.

Drivers can qualify for massive discounts if they have an approved alarm system, anti-lock brakes, automatic seatbelts, and airbags. these safety devices will keep you safe and lower your insurance bill.

In most states, a defensive driving discount may apply. Defensive driving courses are ideal for newly qualified drivers. In order to receive a discount, you will be required to show your agent proof of completion.

Statistics indicate that more than half of vehicle thefts occur at night. one of the main targets for thieves and vandals include vehicles that are parked on the street and left unattended. Keeping your car in a secured area overnight will reduce the risk of theft and lower your premiums.

When you compare cheap auto insurance quotes online, consider the discounts provided. Enter your ZIP code into our FREE auto insurance comparison tool to get quotes now! If you find a policy that seems too expensive, increase your deductible. for added savings, improve your credit score and clean your driving record. your first accident alone may increase your monthly premium by as much as 40 percent.

Adding a second driver to your policy is another great way to save money. keep in mind that some companies offer discounts of up to five percent to customers who pay for auto insurance upfront. Before you buy a policy, research the insurance carrier you are interested in. many independent agencies rate the financial strength of insurance companies, so make sure you check them out.

Business to Business Advertising | Technology News

by admin

In the advertising world there are two main categories, you could say advertising is split in 2 the two different types are Business to Consumer and Business to Business. In this article I will write a bit about both types and some of the companies that offer these services:

Business to Consumer

This side of advertising is for companies that wish to offer their products or services to the general public and not necessarily to other businesses. A good example of this is general high street shops, they all offer products that anyone off the street can come in and purchase. In an advertising sense here are some companies that offer advertising for Business to Consumer:

Yell.com - This is one of the larger companies offering this service, they offer advertising for pretty much any industry sector. You will be able to find services like Plumbers, Food Restaurants and Takeaways, Toy Shops etc.
Plumber Marketing - This one specialises in plumbers, if you are looking for plumbers this would be a very good place to go.

Business to Business

This differs because of the target audience. This is much more specialised and is aimed for companies to advertise their products or services that are for other companies to use or buy. If you offer something that is designed for use by other companies this is the advertising that you should look in to. Here are some companies that offer Business to Business Advertising:

Businessmagnet Ltd - One of the leading directories available
Applegate - Well known and been around for some time
Kellysearch - Probably the longest running, however becoming dated and not used so much

There are a lot of other companies offering both services, feel free to look around.

Ubisoft ?announces? 2012 games line-up ? includes Assassin's ...

A website claims to have the list of titles the publisher plans on releasing this year, with Splinter Cell: Retribution, Assassin?s Creed 3 and Prince of Persia all listed.

It is still fairly early on in 2012 with publishers getting the ball rolling on a number of their major titles; yet one website seems to have gotten their hands on the list of games that the publisher of the Assassin?s Creed and Ghost Recon series, Ubisoft, plans to release this year.

Ubisoft is coming off the back of a record setting year, as their latest foray into the Assassin?s Creed universe, Revelations, managed to break the sales record of any game in the company?s history. It also finished as one of the top five selling games of 2011 in the United States.

It looks set to follow that up this year with a number of new releases and sequels to a number of their IPs. However, Gameranx is boasting that they are in possession of the company?s release schedule for the year, which was ?announced? and not leaked.

First up, a number of games that everyone knows will be released this year are listed such as the post-apocalyptic survival game, I Am Alive (PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE), the Brothers in Arm reimagining with Furious 4 (PlayStation 3, Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360), two Ghost Recon titles and Assassin?s Creed 3.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is one particular game everyone will be keeping an eye as the game boasts four player cooperative gameplay and some eye poppingly sharp visuals. Ghost Recon Online on the other hand is a free-to-play game that swaps visuals for accessibility and will be released on the Nintendo Wii U and Microsoft Windows.

Assassin?s Creed 3 will also be drawing plenty of attention to itself as the series moves into a new time period and also is set to get a new protagonist. One can expect the usually brilliant trailer for that game sometime around June or July.

As for the other games, well Far Cry 3 was listed for all platforms and interestingly enough so was a new Splinter Cell game (Retribution) and a new Prince of Persia title. Also for those who enjoy the series, Just Dance Final Party is also in the works.
